Personality disorders

The personality disorders are characterized by patterns of perception, reaction and relation that are relatively fixed, inflexible and socially disoriented, including a variety of situations.

Each one has a characteristic pattern of perception and relation with other people and situations (personal characteristics). In other words, all people tend to face the stressful situations in an individual but repetitive style. For example, some people tend to always respond to a problematic situation looking for the aid of others. Others always assume that they can handle the problems by themselves. Some people diminish the problems, others exaggerate them.

Although people tend to respond to a difficult situation in the same way, the majority is prone to try another way if the first answer is ineffective. The people with personality disorders are so rigid that they cannot adapt to the reality, which debilitates their operational capacity. Their disoriented patterns of thought and behavior become evident at the beginning of the adult age, frequently before, and tend their whole life. They are people prone to have problems in its social and interpersonal relations and their work.

The people that suffer personality disorders are not generally conscious that his behavior or its patterns of thought are unsuitable; on the contrary, often they think that their patterns are normal and correct. Frequently, the relatives send them to receive psychiatric help because their inadequate behavior causes difficulties to others. However, people with disorders by anxiety cause problems to themselves but not to others. When the people with personality disorders look for help by themselves (frequently, because of frustrations), they tend to think that their problems are caused by other people or a particularly difficult situation.

Personality disorders include the following types: paranoid, schitzoide, histrionic, narcissist, antisocial, limit, dependent, obsessive-compulsive and liabilities-aggressive. The disorder of identity, previously called multiple personality disorder, is a completely different disorder.

Mental Disorders

Mental Disorders or mental diseases, not only affect adults, but also children and adolescents.

It is necessary to recognize that the mental disease is not a personal failure, nor is it something that only happens to the others.
