codependency

Codependency can happen in any person who is in contact with the addiction of another person it can be a relative, friend, companion or any other person who suffers of addiction. There are also other disorders of conduct and diseases that can generate codependency such as the schizophrenia, violence and neuroses among others. All persons exposed to these disorders, can develop codependency.

Often anybody that has developed codependency or grew in an addictive dysfunctional atmosphere does not show great symptoms until he or she gets married or forms a relationship. On the other hand, with much regularity the children of addicts end up marrying with other addict, still without this being a conscientious decision.

Which are the symptoms of Codependency?
Codependency is characterized by a series of symptoms such as:

•   Difficulty to establish and to maintain healthy intimate relationships
•   Emotional freezing
•   Perfectionism
•   Obsessive necessity to control others conduct
•   Compulsive behavior
•   Deep feelings of inadequacy
•   Shame
•   Negative self image of themselves
•   Dependency on external approval
•   Chronic headache and back pains
•   Chronic gastritis and diarrhea
•   Depression
•   Guilt

These symptoms appear first in the ill relationship that produces the tension, but soon it is transferred to the other relations of the codependent.
